The objectives of the Australian Association of Musculoskeletal Medicine (AAMM) include promoting research into, and knowledge of, the causes, mechanisms, diagnoses, treatment and other aspects of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.  In support of these objectives, the AAMM has established this grant with the objective of seeking innovative outcomes that can be appropriately and effectively applied by general practitioners to patients with musculoskeletal disorders. The grant provides an early career general practice researcher with an opportunity to conduct research in musculoskeletal medicine.

Award details

One grant of up to $10,000 (excluding GST) is available for a period of one year to provide an early career researcher with an opportunity to conduct research into an innovative clinical test, procedure or organisational process within general practice for patients with musculoskeletal pain and disability.

This grant is made available by the Australian Association of Musculoskeletal Medicine and administered by the RACGP Foundation.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an RACGP Foundation / Australian Association of Musculoskeletal Medicine research grant, the principal investigator must be:

  • a general practitioner or general practice registrar; and
  • an early career researcher.

Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • training potential for applicants 20%
  • scientific quality of the proposed research project 30%
  • significance and either originality or innovation 20%
  • feasibility of carrying out and completing the research in a one-year timeframe 10%
  • value for money 10%
  • potential to build capacity in general practice research 10%
