The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) and the RACGP Foundation have established a grant to enable general practitioners to undertake research on issues relating to the management of injuries resulting from road traffic crashes as relevant to general practitioners, their patients and local communities.
MAIC regulates the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance Scheme in Queensland. MAIC’s role involves licensing and monitoring private insurers and setting premium limits to ensure the CTP scheme is affordable to motorists and supports those who make a claim through the scheme. MAIC also has limited oversight of the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ), which was established in 2016 to provide treatment, care and support for individuals seriously injured in road traffic crashes on Queensland’s roads. MAIC has a strong focus on supporting research and education activities that aim to either prevent crashes or improve the long-term health and social outcomes of CTP claimants and NIISQ participants.
One research grant of up to $100,000 (excluding GST) is available for a period of 18 months to provide a GP or GP registrar with an opportunity to conduct research into the management of injuries resulting from road traffic crashes.
This grant is made available by the MAIC and administered by the RACGP Foundation.
To be eligible for the MAIC / RACGP Foundation Research Grant, the principal investigator must be a general practitioner or general practice registrar.
