2019 RACGP Foundation Peter Mudge Medal

The RACGP Peter Mudge Medal is an award established to honour the work and commitment of Professor Peter Mudge in general practice and research. Professor Mudge is currently the Patron of the RACGP Foundation and holds a Rose-Hunt Medal, the RACGP's most prestigious honour, for his remarkable contribution to the RACGP both as Chair of the RACGP Tasmania Board and as Chair of RACGP Council.

The medal is awarded annually to a presenter at the RACGP Annual Conference who has advanced the discipline of general practice and the goals of the RACGP and whose original research has the most potential to significantly influence daily general practice. The prize is $500 (excluding GST) and a medallion and is given in the name of Professor Peter Mudge.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Peter Mudge Medal, an individual must be:

  • an RACGP Fellow
  • a major contributor to the research study being presented

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be judged on their GP19 conference presentations against the following criteria:

  • Quality of research presented
    • Clearly defined research question / aims
    • Relevance of research to general practice
    • Clear explanation of research design and statistical analysis
    • Clear presentation of results obtained
    • Potential of research to significantly influence daily general practice
    • Addresses practical application/potential impact of the research
    • Demonstrated depth of knowledge of material
  • Quality of presentation
    • Quality of audiovisual aids
    • Structure of presentation, including timing
    • Adequate / convincing summary of findings
    • Delivery, engagement with audience, and response to questions
  • Judges' overall impression
