RACGP WA has partnered with the RACGP Foundation to support a new or emerging GP researcher in Western Australia to conduct research that can contribute to improved health and wellbeing of Western Australians. The RACGP WA / RACGP Foundation Research grant is designed to foster a culture of inquiry and continuous improvement within the general practice community in Western Australia, encouraging GPs to actively engage in research that addresses the evolving health needs of the region.

Award details

One grant of up to $10,000 (excl. GST) is available for a period of 12 months for a new or emerging GP researcher in Western Australia to conduct research that can contribute to improved health and wellbeing of Western Australians. 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the RACGP WA / RACGP Foundation Research Grant, the principal investigator must be:

  • a general practitioner or general practice registrar; and
  • an early career researcher; and
  • currently practicing in Western Australia.

An early career researcher is defined as one who: 

  • has not yet undertaken a research higher degree; OR 
  • is currently enrolled in research higher degree; OR 
  • is within five years of completing a research higher degree at the closing date for applications. 

Selection criteria

  • scientific quality of the proposed research project 40%
  • training and development potential for applicants 30%
  • degree to which the project is likely to benefit patients in Western Australia 20%
  • feasibility of carrying out and completing the research within the timeframe 10%
