Welcome to the RACGP Foundation's online grant application service, powered by SmartyGrants.

The RACGP Foundation's Annual Conference Awards recognise excellence in general practice research. The awards are offered each year to GPs and GPs in training who deliver outstanding conference presentations and research posters at the RACGP's annual conference. We are delighted to offer four awards at WONCA 2023.

Award details

Peter Mudge Medal ($500 prize and medallion)

The Peter Mudge Medal is an award established to honour the work and commitment of Professor Peter Mudge in general practice and research. Professor Mudge was the Patron of the RACGP Foundation and held a Rose-Hunt Medal, the RACGP's most prestigious honour, for his remarkable contribution to the RACGP both as Chair of the RACGP Tasmania Board and as Chair of RACGP Council.

The medal is awarded annually to a GP at the RACGP annual conference who has advanced the discipline of general practice and the goals of the RACGP, and whose original research has the most potential to significantly influence daily general practice.

The Rhee Family Award for Research in Aged Care ($500 prize and medallion)

Together with his family, Associate Professor Joel Rhee, a valued member of the RACGP Expert Committee – Research, recently donated this award in memory of A/Prof Rhee's mother, who sadly passed away in March 2023 after a long illness in aged care. The award is intended to recognise research with potential to inform and improve healthcare delivery for elderly Australians living in aged care facilities.

The award is offered for the first time in 2023 to a GP at the RACGP annual conference whose original research has the most potential to significantly influence general practice in aged care.

The Alan Chancellor Award ($500 prize and medallion)

Dr Alan Chancellor, who passed away in 1993, donated this award in 1990 for new researchers in the field of general practice. A recipient of the Rose Hunt Award for a lifetime of service to the RACGP, Dr Chancellor was Chairman of the National Research Committee, a founding supervisor of the RACGP Training Program, and a foundation member of the RACGP National Research and Evaluation Ethics Committee.

The Alan Chancellor Award is presented each year to the GP or GP in training considered to be the best first-time presenter of a research paper at the RACGP annual conference.

The RACGP Foundation Best Poster Prize ($350 prize and award)

The RACGP Foundation Best Poster Prize is presented each year for the best research poster by a GP or GP in training at the RACGP annual conference.
